The Stories:
Get Up and Go! by Nancy L. Carlson.
This story includes vibrant, fun-filled illustrations and an encouraging text that explain the many great reasons to exercise, from making new friends and going to new places to just because it's good for the body. Get Up and Go is written for children in preschool and primary-grade levels
Stretch by Doreen Cronin and Scott Menchin.
This book features a cute dog that leads the reader in a number of different and interesting stretches. This book was designed to help preschoolers stretch their muscles and become more limber.
From Head to Toe by Eric Carle
Appropriate for preschool-age children, this story encourages the reader to imitate animal movements. Children will have fun moving with the animals from head to toe.
The Activity:
The kids will learn that exercise can be fun. They will stretch and move along with the animals featured in the above stories. Then, the librarian will lead them in a series of imaginary sports, like rock climbing, swimming, and baseball. Last, the kids will dance to Alvin & the Chipmunks.
